Notes

The statue stands on the square in front of the building of the Organization of American States. It was presented by the Institute of Hispanic Culture of Madrid and dedicated on the 475th anniversary of Columbus first sighting of the New World, April 14, 1966 (old calendar) (Goode, The Outdoor Sculpture of Washington, D.C., pp. 444-445).
